Togglehemoglobin level in female, it’s lower than the normal range and you have anemia. There are many types of anemia and each one can have different causes, which can include this situation:
– Iron deficiency
– chronic disease
– Thalassemia
– Lead poisoning
– Renal failure
– Aplastic anemia
– Pure red cell aplasia
– Myelofibrosis or myelophthisic processes
– Multiple myeloma
– Alcohol
– Liver disease
– Hypothyroidism
– Folate and Vitamin B12 deficiency
– Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS)
– Drug-induced
– Extravascular hemolysis
– Intravascular hemolysis (5)
Note that a low Hb is not always an illness marker, it can be normal for some people. For instance, women with menstrual periods and pregnant women commonly have low Hb counts (6). Otherwise, a 7.5 hemoglobin level in females is lower than normal and you should consult your doctor.
* You can enter your CBC test results online and get a personalized interpretation, including your condition in each test, definition, reasons for increased or decreased results, dietary and lifestyle recommendations, potential treatments, drug interactions, etc.
Hemoglobin is the protein in blood that is rich in iron and gives it a red color. It’s responsible for carrying 97% of the oxygen from the lungs to the peripheral tissues. HB decreased concentration leads to anemia, with less cellular oxygenation as a direct consequence (1).
The results of a Hb test will show if a person’s hemoglobin levels are within the normal reference range or not. Different labs have slightly different guidelines, but often, a normal result in males, ranges from 14.0 to 17.5, and it’s around 12.3 to 15.3 g/L for females. Optimal results for children vary based on age and gender:
· 6 months to <2 years 11.0 to 13.5 (g/L)
· 2-6 years 11.0 to 13.7
· 6-12 years 11.2 to 14.5
· 12 to <18 years
· Female 11.4 to 14.7
