Toggle15-20/hpf rbc in urine female means that 15-20 red blood cells were found in your urine at 400x magnification, and it’s much more than normal for a woman. Among the most benign causes is strenuous exercise–particularly long-distance running, which can cause bladder irritation (2). Other common causes include:
· infection in the bladder, kidney, or prostate
· trauma
· viral illness, such as hepatitis
· sexual activity
· menstruation
· endometriosis–a problem in women that occurs when the kind of tissue that normally lines the uterus grows somewhere else, such as the bladder
More serious reasons people may have hematuria include:
· bladder or kidney cancer
· inflammation of the kidney, urethra, bladder, or prostate
· blood-clotting disorders, such as hemophilia
· sickle cell disease – a genetic disorder in which a person’s body makes abnormally shaped red blood cells
· polycystic kidney disease – a genetic disorder in which many cysts grow on a person’s kidneys (3)
Management
Hematuria is not a disease itself, it’s just a sign thus, therapy should be directed at the cause. Treatments may include:
– antibiotics, if an infection is responsible
– appropriate medications or extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) to break up kidney stones or use an ureteroscope to remove them
– medication, such as alpha-blockers or 5-alpha reductase inhibitors, or even surgery, if an enlarged prostate is causing your hematuria
Asymptomatic hematuria generally does not require treatment (4,5).

Red blood cells (RBCs) or erythrocytes are biconcave discs that are critical for gaseous exchange. In fact, these small cells circulate in the body and transport O2 from the lungs to the periphery, and CO2 back from the periphery to the lungs (1).
The presence of red blood cells in the urine is not typical. It’s medically termed hematuria and can be a sign of an underlying health issue.
